Top 10 winerie in Valle de Guadalupe 2019

There are many different types of vacations one can take in Mexico, but perhaps one of the trendiest at the moment is one that includes lots of vino! Just a few hours south of San Diego, lies the beautiful Valle de Guadalupe in Baja California. Also referred to as the Napa Valley of Mexico, Valle de Guadalupe is home to more than 100 different wineries supplying close to 80 percent of the entire country’s wine. These have popped up throughout the region on what is known as the “Ruta del Vino,” with each winery producing something slightly different in flavor and experience. There’s even a world-famous Valle Food & Wine Festival each October that’s a can’t-miss if you’re planning on traveling to the region around this time.

While there are many different ones to choose from, here are the top 10 wineries in the Valle de Guadalupe in 2019.

Monte Xanic

This winery is both picturesque and historical, as it is considered the oldest winery in the region. Producing wine in a Bordeaux-style, this winery offers a variety of tastings ranging from $200 Mexican pesos per person (or about $13), to $700 pesos (or about $37). This was established in the 1980’s and was named after the word Xanic, which means “flowers blooming after the first rain.” The drip irrigation system at this vineyard actually uses rain water as one of its sources from the property’s lake to keep the vineyard flourishing.

Vena Cava

In 2005, the Vena Cava winery was established in the region. One of the things that sets this winery apart is it’s use, or lack thereof, of pesticides. All of the plants are grown organically, without the use of chemical pesticides, making the wine from this establishment, high quality and tasty. Even the winery design follows this outlook with recycled materials like old fishing boats seen throughout. They even have a fun food truck for those who want both food and wine.

Casa Frida

Casa Frida is much more than just a winery. It also features a delectable restaurant and rooftop bar for your enjoyment. There’s also an Airbnb for a unique spin on accommodations. Casa Frida is one of the wineries open later, until 7PM, so visiting in the late afternoon is ideal.

Villa Montefiori

This vineyard produces full-body, multi-sensory wine produced with not only the grapes from its vineyard but water from the beautiful mountains surrounding it. The owners trace their roots back to Italy, and put a French and Italian flare into their wines and 42-acre property.

Sol y Barro

Though this is one of the smallest wineries on this list, it certainly makes a lasting impression. The owners are Swiss-Mexican and have built an intimate experience and tasting room featuring some of the region’s most delicious red wines. And their generous pours for tasting, make the experience even more enjoyable!

Viñas de Garza

This winery is best known for its variety of blended wines. Taste the bold flavors of their Cabernet/Merlot blend called Tinto de Mogorcito, while overlooking the breathtaking vineyard.

Bodegas Magoni

Though Bodegas Magoni has been producing wines for years privately, it didn’t open its doors to the public until a few years ago in 2013. They are constantly pushing themselves to produce unique wines and are currently testing more than 50 different kinds of wine to find the perfect ones. Aside from vino, they also make their own olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Cieli

This winery celebrates traditional Mexico in its experience, and even has a featured flight of beers to switch things up. Cieli draws inspiration from Tuscany, and has four signature wines you’ll want to keep coming back for.

Decantos

This is one of the newest wineries to hit the scene in Valle de Guadalupe known best for its modern design and use of decanting (hence the name Decantos) to achieve the perfect wine flavors. The tastings here cost only about $10 USD.

Deckman’s en el Mogor

Though not a winery per-say, this restaurant has to make the top ten list due to its incredibly fresh and delicious cuisine, all from sustainably grown ingredients from its own estate. The chef is the only one with a Michelin-star in the region, so it’s a must experience when visiting the area.
